Disaster Management

Disaster Management

The Cayman Islands Red Cross (CIRC) disaster management programme includes two distinct elements: Disaster preparedness and Disaster response.

Disaster preparedness is focused on educating our community to the types of disaster they may encounter in the Cayman Islands from hurricanes and flooding to fires and crime.

Disaster response is primarily focused on meeting the immediate emergency needs of the people and communities affected by disaster. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the CIRC provides shelter and health services to the vulnerable. In addition, CIRC disaster relief assists individuals and families affected by disaster to resume their normal daily activities independently.

Interested volunteers are trained to become involved in all areas of Red Cross Disaster Services, including community disaster education, disaster preparation and response.

Volunteers interested in training can download the following training schedules:
• Basic introduction to Disaster Management
• Basic introduction to Phycological Support
• Shelter Management

In Grand Cayman, the Container Project is an integral part of our disaster preparedness. CIRC provides one shipping container of essential supplies in each of the seven districts as well as Cayman Brac & Little Cayman to facilitate swift response to disaster. This project also maintains a mobile disaster response unit enabling the recovery nerve centre to be situated right at the heart of operations.
